Three Students Selected as Texas All-State Musicians

Three students from the Comal Independent School District were selected to perform in the Texas All-State Music Band concert on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

These students, Joey Aldrich, Chris Lauderbach and Ilene Sarah Holder, are among the top 2.6 percent of musicians in the state to receive this honor. Aldrich, a junior at Canyon High, plays percussion; Lauderbach, a senior at CHS, plays the tuba; and Holder, a senior at Canyon Lake High, plays the Bb soprano clarinet. This is Holder’s second year as an All-State musician.

After three days of rehearsals, directed by nationally recognized conductors, Aldrich, Lauderbach and Holder will perform for thousands during the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) annual convention. This year marks the association’s 100th anniversary.

High school students selected to perform in the All-State concert have competed in a series of auditions to qualify for this level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. TMEA sponsors the Texas All-State competition.

The process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 33 TMEA regions. A select group of musicians from each region proceeds to compete in eight TMEA area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians qualify to perform in the All-State concert.

Congratulations!
