In only its second year, the Comal ISD Bass Fishing program kicked off the season with a School Champions trophy during the first tournament of the year at Lake Buchanan on Sept. 26.
With 31 anglers and 16 teams of two each, the Comal ISD Bass Fishing Club had quite a showing at the tournament taking first, fifth and eighth place spots.
The team of Evan Velez and Evan Koop from Smithson Valley High School took the top honor, while Braxton Alexander and Cade Dornburg of SVHS took fifth, and Aaden Thomas and Josh Gideon from Canyon High School took the eighth spot.
The club and its members are part of the Texas High School Bass Association which provides high school students the opportunity to compete in organized tournaments such as the first one of the season at Lake Buchanan. The season includes five tournaments that culminate with a regional tournament in April. The next tournament is scheduled for Oct. 17 at Canyon Lake followed by the third on Nov. 14 on Lake LBJ. The final two are scheduled for Feb. 13 on Lake Travis and March 6 on Lake Medina.
The Comal ISD Bass Fishing Club is part of the Comal ISD Intramural Sports Program and is open to high school students from across the district. Each high school in the district has a campus sponsor including Ryan Frech for CHS and Memorial Early College High, Victor and Ruth Escamilla for Canyon Lake High and Jason Pape for Davenport High and SVHS.
Interested students may still join the club by completing a membership form here.
