Title 1 Family Engagement Policy, 2024-2025

 

 

  Research shows that students are more successful when their parents/guardians are actively involved in their education. The Title 1 Family Engagement Policy, in cooperation with the Student-Parent-School Compact, was developed to guide the expectations of each individual having a direct impact on our students’ education. Both items were created with the assistance and approval of parents (in form of a survey), Oak Creek staff members, and school administrators.  

 

     Title 1 is a federally funded program designed to provide a high-quality education that will enable all children to meet the state’s student performance standard.  Title 1 is a part of the “No Child Left Behind Act” passed by Congress in 2002.  Title 1 programs can provide supplemental instruction in reading, math, science and social studies.  These programs use effective methods and instructional strategies that are grounded in scientifically based research.  A school is selected as a Title 1 school on the basis of the number of students within its boundaries who are eligible for free or reduced-priced meals.  Students are selected to participate based on academic need.

 

    Oak Creek Elementary School conducts a Fall Annual Title 1 Meeting, held within the first quarter of the school year, which will provide information on Title 1 laws, the requirements, and the rights of and benefits to parents and students. Parent/Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to make suggestions and participate in decisions relating to the education of their children. A Spring Annual Title 1 Meeting will be held in the last quarter of the school year, allowing parents, community members, and school administrators to update the current Student-Parent-School Compact and the Title 1 Family Engagement Policy, as needed.

 

     Oak Creek will make available information and opportunities that will help guide parents when working to improve their children’s academics. The Title 1 Family Engagement Associate will be provided information on how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between the parents and the school.  

 

Information related to school and parent/family programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to the parents/families via the student and various forms of media, to include email and other forms of social media.

OCES believes that families, students, and school staff should work in partnership to help each student reach their highest potential.  We understand that collaborative involvement in a child’s education will help their achievement, attitude, and behavior.  Therefore, we agree to carry out these expectations to the best of our ability.  This compact is reviewed and revised annually by a group of staff, parents, and community members.  Translation is available if needed.
 
Student:
As a OCES Student, it is important that I work to the best of my ability. In order to do this, I will try to do the following:
  • Attend school each day, be on time, have the necessary supplies and be prepared to actively participate in learning. 
  • Do my best in my work and with my behavior. 
  • Complete my homework, utilizing a daily homework routine and ask for help when needed. 
  • Read 20 minutes every day outside of school time. 
  • Give my parents/guardians all notices and information given to me by the school.
 
Family/Caregiver:

I want my child to achieve. Therefore, I will encourage him/her by doing the following:

  • Communicate with school and teacher.
  • Be involved at school.
  • Support my child’s education.
  • Ensure my child attends school daily prepared and on time.
  • Support attendance and discipline policies.
  • Provide a place,  time , and routine for homework and nightly reading.
  • Stay informed through reading emails and other available media.
  • Encourage learning at school, home, and in the community.
  • Ensure the quality and safety of technology use.
  • Monitor attendance and grades weekly through Skyward.

Teacher:
As a teacher at Oak Creek, I will provide the best education experience for my students by:

  • Explain expectations, curriculum, and assessments ensuring that parents have a voice in their student’s academic decisions. 
  • Provide and inform families of  volunteer opportunities and encourage participation in their child’s education.
  • Communicate regarding student’s progress. 
  • Provide a supportive and effective learning environment.
  • Remain competent and current in curriculum, instructional methods, and strategies.
  • Provide high quality lessons using  TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

 

Principal:
As the school principal, I, Valerie Harari will ensure to:

  • Create a welcoming environment.
  • Provide for  positive communication between teacher, parents, and students.
  • Maintain high standards of academic achievement and behavior.
  • Be an instructional leader and support teachers.
  • Provide in-service and training opportunities for teachers. 
  • Build partnerships between families and teachers to support achievement.
