Monday, Feb. 22, will be a student holiday and a teacher prep day.

Hours of practice have paid off for two student musicians in the district. A percussionist with the Canyon Cougar Band and a clarinetist with the Canyon Lake Hawk Band earned the All-State Musician title recently.

One Smithson Valley High School student's artwork placed in the top 17 among 300 entries in this year's San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Western Art Contest, earning the sophomore a $4,000 scholarship.

The 2019-2020 Federal Report Cards for the state, the district and each Comal ISD campus are now available. Due to COVID-19, some reporting requirements have been waived by the U.S. Department of Education.

Dreams do come true. Just ask the Smithson Valley High School graduate who made headlines and history recently. Through dedication, a consistent work ethic and determination, Trevon Moehrig continues to reach for the stars.

Before the winter break, students and staff organized a wide-variety of toy, clothing and food drives to give back to their communities. Many of these have become traditions that students look forward to participating in year after year.

FACS students learn about careers in counseling, early childhood development, family and community services, education and training, nutrition and wellness, and the hospitality industry. But they also have a heart for service and want to make a difference in their school and community.

Among the 1,700 teachers in the district, two were chosen this week as the District Teachers of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. The Elementary District Teacher of the Year shares her passion for art in order to connect with her students; while the Secondary Teacher of the Year has turned his lifelong involvement in agriculture into a career in education.

Many student-athletes dream of playing their sport at the next level, and six Comal ISD student-athletes took the next step to making that dream a reality on Wednesday, Dec. 16, by signing a National Letter of Intent to play for a college or university.
