The Smithson Valley High School Winter Guard team won the State Championship for the Texas Color Guard Circuit. Additionally, every high school in Comal ISD was represented at a state winter guard competition this season.

Smithson Valley junior Clarissa Wallace defended her SkillsUSA Practical Nursing state title and picked up two more while her fellow Rangers earned eight gold, eight silver and one bronze in the health science competition.

Thirteen CTE criminal justice students from Canyon High School qualified for state SkillsUSA competition with the Community Emergency Response Team placing third.

With fun incentives like snacks, free books and, of course, bragging rights, the NCAA Read to the Final Four made reading a big deal for third-grade students across the San Antonio area, and Comal ISD students found themselves picking up books whenever they had the chance. One campus made it all the way to the Sweet 16.

From picnic tables and jewelry boxes to Adirondack chairs, crosses and everything in between, Comal ISD CTE students entered their best carpentry pieces in this year's SkillsUSA state contest and came home with high marks including superior and excellence awards.

Smithson Valley High School junior and Navy JROTC cadet, LeeMichael Fellbaum made school history when he competed in the National Air Rifle Championship, finishing 39th in the finals.

A Pieper Warrior Company team of five cadets will compete in a Jeopardy-like fast-paced academics competition known as the Brain Brawl on the national level. The team finished as one of the top two in the area championships.

The popularity of powerlifting continues to grow, and Comal ISD students continue to leave their mark on the sport. This year, several athletes brought home hardware from the state competition and 14 qualified for the meet.
