Kirsten Watkins, who teaches AP English and English III at Smithson Valley High School, was recently selected as a University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award winner, based on a nomination written by one of her former students.

As students and parents prepare for back to school, the Comal Independent School District welcomes its first Director of Safety and Security, Joe McKenna, Ph.D. McKenna is leaving his post as the associate director of research and education at Texas State University’s Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) to take on this new role for the district.

Begun in 1935, Boys State is a unique program that educates future leaders about government, civics, and patriotism in a “learn by doing” environment.
